Pdf Summary
A study was conducted to determine if certain sociodemographic factors could predict outcomes in patients with Charcot Neuroarthropathy (CN), a condition that occurs in patients with diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, and trauma. The study analyzed data from 80 Charcot patients between 2015 and 2021, looking at factors such as sex, age, race, and insurance coverage, and their association with the need for major amputation or mortality.

The results showed that government-funded insurance (Medicaid and Medicare) increased the relative risk of death. Patients over the age of 65 also had an increased risk of death. However, there was no significant increased risk of death or amputation based on sex, race, or insurance coverage in the overall patient population.

The study concluded that sociodemographic factors can play a role in predicting outcomes in patients with Charcot, particularly in terms of mortality. However, more research is needed to explore other factors that may influence outcomes and to establish evidence-based guidelines for treatment decisions.

Charcot Neuroarthropathy is a serious condition that can have high rates of morbidity and mortality. It poses a significant economic burden on the healthcare system. This study highlights the need for further investigation into factors that can help predict outcomes in Charcot patients and improve treatment decision-making.
