Clinical and Radiologic Outcomes of the 3-Component Salto Total Ankle Arthroplasty for End-Stage Ankle Osteoarthritis
Back to course
Pdf Summary
This study investigated the early clinical and radiologic outcomes of the Salto mobile bearing 3-component total ankle prosthesis in patients with end-stage ankle osteoarthritis. The study included 119 ankles (117 patients) and had a mean follow-up of 22.1 months. The clinical assessment included VAS score, AOFAS ankle-hindfoot scores, ankle range of motion, and patient satisfaction. The radiologic assessment included various angles to determine ankle deformity. The study found that the Salto prosthesis had promising outcomes, with a satisfaction rate of 88%, and there were no implant revisions or conversions to ankle arthrodesis in this series.

The study also defined varus and valgus ankle deformity based on several angles. Any one of these angles exceeding a certain threshold indicated the presence of ankle deformity. The study highlighted that the Salto prosthesis was a good option for end-stage ankle osteoarthritis with favorable outcomes.

No complications or reoperations were reported in this series, further supporting the effectiveness and safety of the Salto prosthesis. The study concluded that with good results observed after six months of surgery, favorable long-term outcomes could be expected.

References:
1.
