Differences in Outcomes Between Tendon Transfer Treatments of Congenital Clubfoot in Cerebral Palsy
Back to course
Pdf Summary
The study conducted a comprehensive search of medical databases to identify articles that detailed tendon-transfer treatment of pediatric patients with congenital clubfoot (CF) in cerebral palsy (CP). A total of 17 articles were included in the review, with 12 focusing on split posterior tendon transfer (SPOTT) and 5 on split anterior tendon transfer (SPATT). The mean age of patients and length of follow-up were comparable between those who underwent SPOTT and SPATT procedures.

The study found no significant difference in failure outcomes between patients who underwent SPOTT and SPATT. The post-operative excellent and good rates for SPOTT were 90.48%, while the failure rate was 8.70%. For SPATT, the post-operative excellent and good rates were 71.22%, with a failure rate of 9.73%.

The preferred method for CF correction in CP patients was found to be SPOTT. However, the study noted that the conclusions were limited by the small number of studies on outcomes of tendon transfer for clubfoot repair in CP patients. The researchers recommend further research be conducted to provide more information on these outcomes.

Overall, the study aimed to compare the outcomes of CP CF patients who received SPOTT treatment versus those who received SPATT treatment. While the preferred method appeared to be SPOTT, the study did not find a significant difference in failure outcomes between the two procedures.
