Pdf Summary
A study was conducted to investigate the effect of suture tape augmentation on the clinical outcomes of patients who underwent a Broström surgery for chronic ankle instability. The study included 100 patients who received a modified Broström procedure by a single foot and ankle surgeon. The patients were divided into two groups based on whether they received suture tape augmentation or not. The demographics and medical history of the patients were collected, along with patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) such as pain, function, and quality of life.

The results of the study showed that there were no significant differences in the demographics between the two groups. Both groups showed significant improvement in the postoperative PROMs compared to preoperative measures. There were no differences in any postoperative outcome durations or rates between the groups, including infection rate, re-operation rate, and removal of hardware rate. None of the patients who received suture tape augmentation experienced deep infection or required hardware removal, indicating the safety and efficacy of adding the additional hardware in these procedures.

The study concluded that the use of suture tape augmentation in Broström surgeries did not affect postoperative outcomes. The addition of suture tape augmentation was found to be safe and effective, especially in revision Broström procedures. The findings of this study support the literature on this topic.

In summary, this study investigated the impact of suture tape augmentation on the outcomes of Broström surgeries for chronic ankle instability. The results showed no significant differences between the groups that received suture tape augmentation and those that did not. The use of suture tape augmentation was found to be safe and effective in improving the outcomes of these surgeries.
