Non-Anatomic All-Inside Arthroscopic Anterior Talofibular Ligament Repair with a High Position Anchor Shows Inferior Clinical Outcomes: A 3D-CT Based Analysis in Chronic Ankle Instability Patients
Back to course
Pdf Summary
A cohort study was conducted to compare the clinical outcomes of arthroscopic anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) repair using 3D CT imaging in patients with chronic ankle instability (CAI). The study included 80 patients who underwent arthroscopic ATFL repair and were followed up for at least 2 years. The mean age of the patients was 34.5 years and the mean follow-up period was 27.4 months.

The results showed that non-anatomic ATFL repair had inferior outcomes compared to anatomical repair. The anchor used in the repair should be fixed in the anatomical position to improve the prognosis. The study concluded that arthroscopic ATFL repair with a high-position anchor showed better clinical outcomes in CAI patients.

This study provides important insights into the surgical technique for ATFL repair in CAI patients. The use of 3D CT imaging allows for a more accurate and precise placement of the anchor, resulting in better clinical outcomes. This information can be valuable for orthopedic surgeons when performing arthroscopic ATFL repairs.

It is important to note that this study is a retrospective review of consecutive patients and has a level of evidence 3. Further research with a larger sample size and a randomized controlled design is needed to validate these findings. Nevertheless, the results suggest that an anatomical approach to ATFL repair using 3D CT imaging can lead to improved outcomes in CAI patients.
