Video Summary
The video presentation is a systematic review of osteotomies around the knee and their effect on the alignment of the ankle and hind foot. The presenter, Arne Persens, explains that although there are reports showing the importance of hind foot alignment in knee osteotomies, there is a lack of comprehensive research on the topic. The goal of the study was to systematically review biomechanical and clinical studies related to this issue. The presenter describes the methodology, including the search process and exclusion criteria. Out of 3000 initial papers, 23 studies were included in the analysis. The results suggest that knee osteotomies can positively impact ankle and hind foot characteristics, but certain factors may negatively affect biomechanics. Pain scores and alignment measurements generally improved after knee osteotomy, but specific conditions may lead to worsened symptoms. The discussion emphasizes the need for prospective studies to further understand the interaction between knee osteotomy and ankle-hind foot alignment.
