Pdf Summary
A study was conducted to determine the success rate of non-operative treatment for Insertional Achilles Tendinopathy (IAT) and to identify factors associated with the failure of conservative management. The study included 133 IAT patients who were divided into two groups: those who were successfully treated with conservative therapy and those who required surgery. The overall success rate of non-operative treatment was found to be 82.5%. However, there was no difference in success rate between different conservative treatment methods.

Several factors were found to be significantly associated with the failure of conservative management. Patients who later required surgery were more likely to be female, have higher VAS pain scores, lower SF-12 physical scores, hypertension, Haglund’s Deformity on physical exam, and greater cross-sectional tendon disease involvement on MRI.

The study provides valuable insights into the success rate of conservative treatment for IAT and identifies certain risk factors for treatment failure. It highlights the importance of considering these factors when determining the appropriate treatment approach for patients with IAT.

Overall, the study supports the efficacy of modern conservative management for IAT, with a success rate of 82.5%. However, it emphasizes the need to individualize treatment based on patient characteristics and risk factors to optimize outcomes.
