Description
These quarterly discussions will address books and journal articles on healthcare inequities along with diversity and inclusion issues for the profession. Programming will include small group breakout discussions and guest speakers where appropriate.

Featured Book
The Remedy: Queer and Trans Voices on Health and Health Care, edited by Zena Sharman

The Remedy is a diverse collection of real-life stories from queer and trans people on their own healthcare experiences and challenges. The book also includes essays by healthcare providers, activists, and leaders about the challenges, politics, and opportunities surrounding LGBTQ+ health issues.

Moderators and participants discuss the discrimination and challenges the LGBTQ+ community faces in the healthcare system as well as ways to make orthopaedic surgery more inclusive for patients. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the unique challenges and discrimination that the LGBTQ+ community faces in the healthcare system

  • Identify some of our own biases when treating these patients

  • Consider changes that we can make as healthcare providers to provide more inclusive care for the LGBTQ+ community

Accreditation
The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians.

Credit Designation Statement
