Recorded Webinar: Physician Work/Life Balance: Avoiding Burnout
Physician Work/Life Balance: Avoiding Burnout
Moderator: Sandra E. Klein, MD
Faculty: Karen M. Sutton, MD, FAAOS; Marlene DeMaio, MD, FAAOS

Burnout is a systemic problem within all healthcare professionals but is particularly prevalent with physicians. Multiple factors play a part in contributing to a high rate of discontentment, which can have negative consequences for the physician’s health, the overall patient care, and the positive work/life balance for the individual. Faculty from the AOFAS, Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society, and J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society will discuss factors contributing to physician burnout, provide examples on how to identify consequences of burnout, discuss how to distinguish burnout from other more serious medical conditions, including behavioral and mental health, and present strategies for achieving work/life balance at all stages of your career.

At the end of this webinar you will be able to:

- Describe multiple factors (work, personal, organizational) contributing to a high rate of burnout among physicians.
- Identify consequences of burnout and effect on patient care
- Distinguish the difference between burnout and other serious medical conditions
- Apply solutions to avoid burnout and achieve a positive work/life balance.

The 2019 Physician Wellness Webinar Series is provided free to AOFAS, RJOS and JRGOS members and orthopaedic residents/fellows with funding from the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation, supported in part by Wright Medical Group N.V.
