The last several years have seen an incredible increase in the use and misuse of opioids in the United States. Orthopaedic surgeons have been a significant contributor to what is now called an opioid epidemic. This webinar will outline the history of the epidemic, review evidence-based guidelines for analgesia, dispel myths that contribute to the overprescription of opioids, provide alternatives, and offer safe and effective postoperative protocols for pain management.
At the conclusion of this webinar, you will be able to:
- Understand the complex interplay of factors that have contributed to the opioid epidemic
- Identify a broad range of analgesic measures; pharmacologic and procedural
- Understand an evidence-based, multimodal, analgesic approach to maximize patient satisfaction and safety and minimize risk
