Putting It Into Practice: The Basics Applied is a series of virtual courses providing the basics of foot and ankle clinical care. In this first course, multidisciplinary faculty will discuss the evaluation and management of common foot and ankle trauma. Topics include Fifth Metatarsal Fractures, Lisfranc Injuries, and Ankle Fractures. This course is ideal for physical therapists, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, athletic trainers, orthopaedic residents, and primary care physicians.

This course is presented in collaboration with the Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy (AOPT) Foot and Ankle Special Interest Group (FASIG).

Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

  • Describe the evaluation, treatment, and outcomes of fifth metatarsal fractures
  • Describe the evaluation, treatment, and outcomes of Lisfranc injuries
  • Understand the basics of evaluating patients with ankle fractures and identify indications for surgical treatment
  • Understand post-operative and post-injury rehabilitation of ankle fractures
The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The AOFAS designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

The Illinois Chapter Continuing Education Committee has certified that this course meets the criteria for approval of Continuing Education offerings established by The Illinois Physical Therapy Association. This program is eligible for a maximum of 1.5 CE hours.

The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Certified Athletic Trainers. This program is eligible for a maximum of 1.5 hours/CEUs. Athletic Trainers should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.
