Bundle Overview

Putting It Into Practice: The Basics Applied is a series of virtual courses providing the basics of foot and ankle clinical care. The series is ideal for physical therapists, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, athletic trainers, orthopaedic residents, and primary care physicians.

This bundle contains access to all four individual courses. CME must be claimed for each individual course. 

Part 1: Common Foot and Ankle Trauma
In part one, multidisciplinary faculty will discuss the evaluation and management of common foot and ankle trauma. Topics include Fifth Metatarsal Fractures, Lisfranc Injuries, and Ankle Fractures. This course is ideal for physical therapists, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, athletic trainers, orthopaedic residents, and primary care physicians

Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to:

  • Describe the evaluation, treatment, and outcomes of fifth metatarsal fractures
  • Describe the evaluation, treatment, and outcomes of Lisfranc injuries
  • Understand the basics of evaluating patients with ankle fractures and identify indications for surgical treatment
  • Understand post-operative and post-injury rehabilitation of ankle fractures
Part 2: Deformity Correction
In part two, multidisciplinary faculty will discuss the evaluation and management of deformity correction. Topics include Cavus Deformity, Flatfoot Deformity, PT Evaluation and Treatment of Deformity, and Orthotics Basics. This course is ideal for all Advanced Practice Providers, including physical therapists, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, athletic trainers, orthopaedic residents, and primary care physicians.

Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, learners should be able to: 

  • Describe the evaluation, treatment, and outcomes of cavus deformity
  • Describe the evaluation, treatment, and outcomes of flatfoot deformity
  • Understand the basics of evaluating patients with deformity
  • Understand the basics of orthotics for use in deformity correction
Part 3: Management of the Diabetic Foot

In part three of the series, multidisciplinary faculty will discuss the management of the diabetic foot. Topics include Charcot Foot, Musculoskeletal Approaches to Diabetes, Wound Care, and Operative Management. This course is ideal for physical therapists, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, athletic trainers, orthopaedic residents, and primary care physicians.

Educational Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, learners should be able to:

  • Describe the evaluation, treatment, and outcomes of Charcot arthropathy
  • Understand the musculoskeletal approaches to treating foot and ankle conditions associated with diabetes
  • Understand the goals and treatment options for diabetic foot and ankle wounds
  • Understand the indications, goals, and options for operative management of the diabetic foot
Part 4: Pediatric Foot and Ankle Pathology

In Part 4 of the series, multidisciplinary faculty will provide the knowledge and skills needed to treat pediatric foot and ankle patients in the office. Topics include Pediatric Flatfoot Deformity, Pediatric Foot and Ankle Fractures, and Tight Heel Cord.

Educational Objectives
At the conclusion of this webinar, you will be able to:

  • Describe the etiology of pediatric flatfoot deformity to help diagnose and treat pediatric patients in the office
  • Read pediatric foot and ankle x-rays and understand, diagnose and treat pediatric foot and ankle fractures
  • Describe the etiology of the tight heel cord and toe walking as well as provide physical therapy techniques to treat the tight heel cord
CME Overview
Accreditation & Credit
The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. AOFAS designates this enduring material activity for a maximum of 9 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Participants are required to submit a completed evaluation form at the end of the course in order to receive CME credit.

The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) is approved by the Board of Certification, Inc. to provide continuing education to Certified Athletic Trainers. This program is eligible for a maximum of 9 hours/CEUs. Athletic Trainers should claim only those hours actually spent in the educational program.
